Improve The Garden Lawn

The lawn that has been neglected will show it. There are many beautiful homes where the lawns have not been taken care of the decrease the appeal of the home. Mowing the lawn is not the only lawn care that needs to be done to have a nice lawn. Mowing the lawn will increase the looks of the lawn but it also needs fertilizers and other preventive care to improve the conditions as well. The type of grass seed for the lawn is one of the biggest mistakes people make for their lawns. They select a shady seed for the lawn with major sun exposure then wonder why the grass looks terrible. Selecting the right seeds for the conditions of the yard will improve the appearance. For shady lawns use varieties designed for shade. Use ground cover that thrives in the shade around the yard, bushes, and trees adding to the appearance of the lawn. Use creeping green perennials to hide the areas of the yard other plants will not grow properly.

Use different combinations of grass seeds to enrich the soil and durability of the lawn. Adding fescue seed to Kentucky bluegrass seed or Bermuda seed will make the thicker grass appearance. The fescue seed is a slender bladed grass so used in combination with the thicker bladed grass creates a tougher grass for the yard.

Poor soil reflects the lawns ability to grow properly. One way to improve the soil conditions of the yard is to fertilize the yard and aerate the lawn by poking holes in the soil to allow the ground to breath. Use fertilizer to the lawn in the spring and fall to improve the condition of the soil. Use weed killers on the plants and bushes to add to the appearance of the yard. Restrict the kids and animals from the areas you used the weed killers to avoid them getting sick from the chemicals.

Add wood chips, decorative gravel, or stones around the plants. This will decrease the growth of weeds and adds to the appearance of the areas. Remove the old weeds and dead plants. Prune the branches of the trees in the spring before the sap rises in the trees. Shape the shrubs and bushes so they are not so scraggly. Cut the sizes of the over grown bushes and shrubs so they fit into the areas they are planted reducing the "over grown" look many have in the yard. Plant more grass seed in the areas of the yard where the grass is not growing or thick. Water the new seeds and keep people and animals off the areas until the seeds are matured. If you have to, space string around the areas of the new seed to help to keep traffic offs the new seeds.
