Perennial Plants In The Garden

You have the garden prepared with the right soil and all the plants ready to be planted. Now you only need to know how to create the beautiful presentation in the garden. The solution to your dilemma is to use perennial plants to make the wonderful garden.

Perennial plants do not have had the stiff stems that will die and leave the nasty mess to clean up in the fall or following spring. They are hardy plants that provide the shiny leafy plants after the blooms die off. Arrange the plants in groups of three or more to create a dramatic appearance of color and splendor. Switch to the method of combining different types of plants for a display of color and sizes.

When preparing the soil for the perennials, make sure the soil has good drainage. Group the plants together with the same growing and watering requirements. Loosen the soil and add organic fertilizers to the before planting the perennials. Space each plant appropriately, so they will have the right amount of space to grow properly and mature. This also allows for the appearance of the greenery once the blooming season is over.

Cover the ground around the plants with mulch to prevent weeds and help the ground retain the moisture for the plants. Place the plants that are taller in the back with the shorter and closer to the ground plants in the front.

Separate the times of blooming plants to increase the display of color in the garden. Use this system to have a colorful garden throughout the summer and fall.

Summertime is the time the perennial flowers grow so plant the flowers in the spring so the plants have are adjusted to their new home. This allows the plants time to get ready to bloom and make the garden exactly as you designed. For certain plants, you may have to use stakes to provide a sturdy structure temporarily. As the blooms die, remove the dead growth. The more you remove the dead blooms the faster the plant will produce new blooms.

Add to the appearance of the garden by adding shrubs. This makes a beautiful garden especially in a larger garden. It creates a nice balance when using taller perennials with ornamental grasses bringing out the colors of the blooming perennials. The grasses sway gently in the summer breezes drawing the eyes to the colors of the blooms. Use perennials as borders in the garden making a very pretty edging to the garden area. Cluster the flowers in other areas boosting the colors within the garden.

Some of the common perennials are Hosta, Aruncus Sylvester, Dicentra Spectabilis, Galdiolus hyzantinus, Gunnera Manicata and Gaillardia. They all are great plants for any garden.
